Shipboard Life

We've been enjoying the six consecutive days of sailing between the Canary Islands and Ghana.   Barry will meet his World Religions class 3 times and the Liberation Theology class twice during this leg of the voyage.     The World Religions classes have been learning about African Traditional Religion and the religious environment in Ghana.    The Liberation Theology class is submitted midterm essays on the first book they read, Gustavo Gutierrez's A Theology of Liberation.    Barry's been having lots of meetings with students going over their drafts.  One fellow sent him a draft to look at and Barry wrote him back at first saying that he had nothing to tell him to improve it!  (That's a first!)  He was able to find two little things after that.

One of the advantages of having a dean who is an expert on the history of the circus is that one of his good friends, a famous Big Apple Circus clown name Barry Lubin, is on board.Yesterday, he did a performance of the children.  Jayne alerted Barry and so both of us were there.
We got to see him put on his makeup.

And all of us could get a red dot on our noses if we wished.

We saw the clown juggle and spin a towel.

Barry Lubin's most well-known clown character is Grandma, who he played for 38 years in the circus and elsewhere.

Of course, the two Barrys had to perform together.
